Does this provide the same protection as the Total Protection Brush-On Shield SPF 50?

The Sheer Matte 30 brush also defends against UVA/UVB, pollution, blue light, and infrared damage, like the Brush-On Shield SPF 50. However, the Brush-On Shield SPF 50 offers higher UVA/UVB and blue light protection and is water and sweat resistant for up to 80 minutes.

Is this suitable for acne-prone and sensitive skin types?

Does the Sheer Matte Brush contain talc for oil absorption?

No, the Sheer Matte 30 Sunscreen Brush doesn’t contain talc. Its mattifying properties come from a unique silicone-treated powder clinically proven to absorb excess sebum.

How do I activate/prime my brush?

To ensure proper product dispensing:

Activate the brush before use.
Remove the cap and push the plastic sleeve down.
Remove and discard the rubber band and pull the sleeve back up.
Replace the cap.
Tap the brush 3-5 times on a hard surface, cap side down.
Open the brush, pull down the sleeve again, flick the bristles to ensure powder flow, and apply light pressure in small circular motions.
Repeat as needed until the powder flows consistently.

How do I apply this brush?

Before each use:

Tap the brush 3-5 times on a hard surface, cap side down, then flick the bristles to see the powder flowing.
Use light pressure and small circular motions to brush the sheer powder onto the skin.
Apply generously across your face for at least 60 seconds while making multiple passes.
Reload more powder as needed during application by shaking or tapping powder downward into the bristles. The Sheer Matte SPF 30 Sunscreen Brush can be used all over the face or focused on the t-zone where oiliness is most prominent.

How much should I apply to achieve SPF 30 protection?

We recommend applying an even layer around the face for at least 60 seconds to achieve full SPF 30 coverage. Reapply every two hours for continued protection or more frequently for oil absorption.

How often should I apply this brush?

As with all sunscreens, reapply every 2 hours for continued UV and environmental protection, following the Skin Cancer Foundation’s recommendation. Use as often as needed for oil absorption and mattification.

Can this be applied over makeup?

Yes. Apply this product before or after makeup to absorb excess shine, mattify, and minimize the appearance of pores.

Can I layer this brush-on powder with other Colorescience brushes?

Yes, all Colorescience brushes can be used together to customize your coverage and protection.

Before applying this brush, do I need to remove surface oil with blotting papers? No, this brush will absorb and blot away oil without the need to remove any from your skin beforehand.

How are adherence/water and sweat resistance tested?

Colorescience follows FDA guidelines for testing water resistance or adherence to the skin after water exposure. A panel of 10 people applies the product to their skin before being immersed in a whirlpool (of moving or circulating water) for 20-minute cycles. After 20 minutes in the whirlpool, panelists exit it before immersing themselves again. For 40 minutes of water resistance, panelists are immersed in the water for two 20-minute cycles. For 80 minutes of water resistance, this is done 4 times. After all, cycles are completed, the remaining SPF on the skin is measured. If after 80 minutes in the whirlpool, the SPF remaining is at least 50, the result is an SPF of 50 with 80 minutes of water resistance.

My brush is getting clogged or has slow powder flow. What should I do? Regular brush maintenance is important to ensure powder flows through the bristles. Clean your brush weekly using Colorescience Brush Cleansing Wipes or another alcohol-based cleaner that is safe and gentle for use on cosmetic brushes. Allow bristles to dry with the cap off before using.
